Introduction

In order to write this review on the Breville 800CPXL, we wanted to make sure we were covering all the possible aspects of this citrus juicer. In addition to looking at the specifications and referring to our personal experience with this juicer, we’ve looked a how it’s been used by other buyers and determined what to watch out for.

We gathered information from reviews all around the web in order to understand what users thought of the product. We looked at online videos of the product in action, and looked at other reviews to better understand this citrus juicer.

We also read through cold hard facts, like product descriptions, comparison charts and data, number of stars and the reviews for both full stars and single or double stars. Doing so gave us a general idea of the most commonly appreciated features, and what should be improved about this juicer.

All About the Breville 800CPXL Citrus Press

After using the Breville 800CPXL for a while as part of a health program, we must say we’re quite happy with out easy it is to work this juicer and how easy cleaning it was as compared to other juicers. But first, a bit more about the product.

The Breville 800CPXL stands 18 inches high with a footprint of 11 inches by 9 inches. It’s got a silent electric motor within its stainless steel body that has three visible segments. That’s the main body casing with its brand name engraved, the stainless steel filter basket and its “active-arm” holding an inverted ribbed dome above meant to hold any citrus fruit in place when pressed for juice.

A small lip spout slightly protrudes below the juice collector underneath the stainless steel filter. This moveable lip spout is one of Breville 800CPXL’s highlighted feature that allows you to keep the juice that’s squeezed within its juice collector until you’re ready to let it flow into your glass with a flick down.

Another of this citrus juicer model’s prime feature is its die-cast stainless steel juicing cone that’s situated at the center of the filter bowl. This cone is connected to the motor within this juicer’s body, enabling it to rotate when it senses both the lowering of the juice press arm and the increased pressure on the cone when you juice citrus.

This dual condition that triggers its internal sensor for the motor is the juicer’s safety feature to keep the appliance from unwarranted mechanical movement.

The Breville 800CPXL is designed to bring together two of the most important features of any citrus juicers: it’s able to juice any citrus fruit of all sizes and variety, and it makes cleaning fast and easy. It’s made to be an industrial-designed appliance with commercial use for the home.

What enables the Breville citrus juicer to take in any size or variety of citrus for juicing are its wide juicing circumference, and its patented Quadra-Fin acid-resistant cone that does the actual pulp scraping and juicing on any rind. The cone’s tapering ribbed sides allow for any citrus fruit on it with its protruding apex tip pinning the half rind in place.

The Breville 800CPXL’s wide and spacious collector underneath the strainer allows you to continuously juice several fruit halves at a time before you let them all out with the flick down of the spout. That’s what allows you to juice frequently and with multiple fruits at any one time.

Its active-arm press handle with lever-assisted capability certainly makes the work of juicing effortless no matter how many times you use it.

Less fuss means no mess and easy cleaning. The Breville 800CPXL has been designed for both because of its stainless steel body and its easily removable parts which are also made from stainless steel.

That’s certainly been our experience with this product. Fast, easy and clean.

Our Breville 800CPXL Review

We found the star feature of this juicer to be the juice press “active” arm that exerts an added weight force on the citrus because of the lever principle. The force that is exerted close to the fulcrum where the angle of the arm occurs is multiplied. This makes it possible for a five-year-old to press and juice by herself, or a even a user with severe arthritis.

Because of its unique Quadra-Fin Juicing Cone, juicing with the Breville 800CPXL is a lot faster than with a conventional citrus press. It is effortless and easy to use.

Because of the stainless steel filter and collector, the pulp gets collected separately from the juice. All this is happening within its enclosure. A spout acts as a toggle allowing the juice that’s collected to flow into your glass when you’re ready.

We also found it extremely easy to clean. In just a few minutes, we had all the important parts taken apart and washed under a warm soaping water. All that was left to do was letting them dry, and putting them back.

The fact that we were able to juice citrus fruits of all kinds, and especially of all sizes, is a huge plus. Smaller fruits like limes and lemons are sometimes hard to juice using a cheaper citrus press like the Gourmia EPJ100 because they don’t hold the fruit correctly in place.

We appreciated how solid the juicer felt because of its stainless steel construction. It didn’t make any mess during use and felt high-quality.

Sometimes though, the body of the device can get hot after using it a while and may stop working. You’ll need to let the juicer cool down if that happens before it starts working again.

But ultimately, we really appreciated the feeling of quality that this juicer had. The fact that it is able to juice smaller fruits easily is very interesting. The only thing this citrus press has against it is the price. It’s one of the most expensive non-industrial juicer on the market, which might be a steep price to pay for some users for a fresh glass of orange juice.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Easy to operate
  • Very fast
  • Cleaning the juicer is easy
  • You can choose whether you want pulp

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Warranty limited to 1 year
  • A bit bulky

What Owners Think

Pretty much all users of this juicer appliance have expressed their appreciation for how easy it is to juice with it. They like how little strength you need to push on the juicer arm, how well the dome and cone hold the fruit on its own and how well it separates the pulp and collects all the juice for easy pouring when ready.

However, some users have experienced durability issues. They have described how the drive shaft that’s under the die-cast stainless steel cone can crack. This driveshaft is made of plastic and may suffer from fatigue after some time as it turns the very cone that grinds the citrus. A few users have mentioned how their Breville 800CPXL only lasted two years, which is really unfortunate given the high price tag and the 1 year warranty.

One major theme that is present in a lot of reviews is how easy this juicer is to clean. This is due to its stainless steel body and its three parts detachable components that can just be rinsed or washed in the dishwasher.

Users found it expensive. It costs about four to five times more than the cheaper competition. However, many claim it’s all worth it. Some also do find this juicer bulky, considering that a handheld citrus manual juicer is light enough to hold up in one hand. Still, many don’t mind the size and weight seeing you’d be able to juice five to ten times more with the Breville 800CPXL.

Owners Really Like

  • Very easy to use and clean up
  • Works with any size of citrus
  • No spill, no mess

What Could Be Improved

  • Expensive
  • Some parts are not as durable
  • Bulky

Bottom Line

The Breville 800CPXL is really meant for the serious citrus juicer, someone who is committed to juicing citrus every day either for a glass of freshly made orange juice or someone who cooks with lemon or lime daily. If that’s you, we think it’s worth its price. This citrus juicer will certainly come close to being commercial grade when it comes to the amount of juice you can get out of it. Its ease of use, ease of cleaning and adaptability will make it a welcome part of a healthy morning routine for you and your family.
